BSc (Hons) Health and Exercise Science
Introduction
Health and exercise professionals play an important role in tackling the health challenges we face as a society with a range of physical activity interventions.
This programme prepares you to work with a broad array of issues in the physical activity and health development sector. It is designed to develop students' knowledge and understanding of health, as well as the underpinning exercise science behind it. The programme supports you to develop applied skills in evaluating and assessing a range of clients. It encourages you to confidently provide suitable physical activity and healthy eating recommendations, and design, implement, and evaluate health promotion projects. You’ll be inspired and empowered to become confident and efficient professionals.

Specialist facilities
In this programme, you will develop a theoretical base, learn in practical settings and apply theory into practice in real-life contexts to prepare you for employment. The programme does not only equip you with the necessary knowledge to become confident graduates, you will also enjoy learning opportunities in specialist facilities , such as Fitness and Exercise Nutrition Resource Centre and Wellness Centre Fitness Room . The campus has an outdoor basket/volleyball court as well for sprint performance testing and team sports.
Modules
- Advanced Sport and Exercise Nutrition

This module aims to draw upon prior knowledge and practical experience in sport and exercise nutrition and sport physiology, including nutritional requirements, relationship between daily nutritional intake and optimal sports performance, practical skills for the assessment of nutritional intake, hydration status, energy balance and body composition, as well as appropriate dietary strategies and daily nutritional prescription of different sports performers.
- Community Health Development

This module seeks to critically explore the implementation and evaluation of community health promotion programmes and health policies based on promoting physical activity and/or healthy eating. The theoretical content is designed to develop skills in ethical and moral planning, monitoring and evaluation, which can be used to implement a 'live' student-led health promotion project or policy.
- Personal Training

This interdisciplinary module is designed to build on prior knowledge of exercise instruction, and the anatomical and physiological processes of sport and exercise physiology related to the planning, prescription and delivery of a specific exercise programme. This module prepares you academically and vocationally to be able to critique and deliver a personal training programme.
- Dissertation

The Dissertation module provides an opportunity for an in-depth study of a particular topic in the area of sport and exercise science and to demonstrate original and critical thought. You will need to provide a critical examination of sport and/or exercise activity through the acquisition, interpretation and analysis of appropriate date of your selected topic.
Assessment
Poster presentation, project report, thesis/dissertation and exam.

Entry Requirements
Holders of one of of the following VTC Higher Diploma (HD) programmes:
• HD in Fitness and Exercise Nutrition
• HD in Health Studies
• HD in Rehabilitation Services
OR
Holders of Higher Diploma (HD) or Associate Degree (AD) or equivalent qualification in a relevant Science subject area awarded by a recognised institution, or equivalent experience will also be considered. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
English Proficiency Requirements
- Applicants holding post-secondary qualifications (e.g. Higher Diploma, Associate Degree) taught and assessed in English from recognised institutions;
OR
- At least an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.
Fees
- Application Fee : HK$200 (No application fee before the deadline!)
- Registration Fee : HK$3,500
- Tuition Fee : HK$96,900 by 2 instalments
(Deduct up to HK$33,740 via NMTSS)

Eligible students for NMTSS only need to pay the tuition fee net of NMTSS. After admission, students with outstanding academic performance at sub-degree level will be nominated for OPS and the awardees will receive the scholarship around July/August next year. The disbursement of NMTSS and the award of OPS will be subject to the final approval by the Education Bureau (EDB). |

Graduates of this programme can join the industry in a wide range of professions in relation to health, sports science and exercise. The positions of these sectors include a broad range of job titles, such as Health Communication Assistant Manager, Sports Science Officer, Health Club Receptionist, and Health Safety Manager in the fields of health and fitness.
Further Studies
Graduates of this programme can further their studies in relevant Master’s degree programmes at the University of Lincoln in the UK such as “Master of Science in Sport Science”, “Master of Science in Sports Therapy” and “Master of Science in International Sports Business Management”. They may also apply for relevant Master of Science degree programmes in Sports Science and Physical Activity, Sports Medicine, and Health Science at local universities.
