BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care
Introduction
This Health and Social Care programme develops your knowledge and understanding, skills and attributes needed to work in contemporary health and social care environments, and become critically reflective learners.
The Programme provides you with the knowledge to develop academic, leadership and research competencies and professional skills in addressing patient-centred care, collaborative working and service improvements. The focus will be on intellectual, technical and leadership training in preparing you for future career and academic development. During the course of study, you are expected to embrace multiple perspectives, needs and applications of health and social care practice.

You will learn multi-disciplinary knowledge and practical skills in the health and social care industry which prepare you for managerial and leadership roles in the industry.

- Dissertation Social Care

This dissertation module allows you to integrate generic and specialised knowledge in health and social care. You will have the opportunity to integrate the knowledge acquired in various modules throughout your study to carry out an individual research project on contemporary health and social care issues. UWE Bristol teaching staff will provide advice to you on this dissertation module. There are also local project supervision meetings along your research journey from planning, implementation to generating results.
- Evidence and Research in Practice

This is a core module which aims to provide you with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the evaluation of research evidence, in order to guide and inform professional practice and policy decisions. It provides underpinning knowledge and understanding of research methods, enabling you to develop skills in critical appraisal of research. It also supports preparation for a dissertation.
- Contemporary Issues in Working with Adults across the Lifecourse (CEF Module)

This module provides theoretical and practical context to issues of protection, risk and decision making in health and social care with both adults and children. You will learn to identify and develop understanding of types, signs, symptoms of abuse and neglect, and then evaluate and discuss the impact of diverse social and cultural contexts for understanding issues of abuse and neglect, and management of risk. During the course, it is important that you learn to examine the strengths, limitations and ethical dimensions of approaches taken by health and social care professionals to managing risk and making decisions.
- Protection, Risk and Decision Making

In this module, you will learn to analyse leadership theories and traits, and reflect on how leaderships, professional influence and negotiation skills can coach individual development and enhance team performance to ensure quality service delivery. You will also appraise theories on organisational and team culture, and consider how to influence change and improve services for quality care provision.

You will develop skills required to improve service delivery and make positive changes to practice in the context of health and social care through learning leadership theories, enterprise and entrepreneurship concepts, and organisational cultures.
For part-time mode only. This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under Continuing Education Fund. The mother course (BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care) of this module is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 5).

Written assignment, report, individual/poster presentation, examination and dissertation.

Having been recognised at QF Level 5, this top-up degree programme meets the standard of locally-accredited bachelor's degree programmes. Upon graduation, students can pursue their further studies at Master’s degree level in Hong Kong or Overseas.
