International Students


All SHAPE’s non-local programmes are registered under Cap. 493 Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance, meeting the following major registration criteria:

  • Our partner universities are recognised non-local institutions in the UK / Australia;
  • Effective measures are in place to ensure our programme standard is maintained at a level comparable with the programmes conducted in the UK / Australia leading to the same qualifications; and
  • This comparability in standard is recognised by our partner universities and the academic community in the UK / Australia.

The agreement between the Mainland and the HKSAR on mutual recognition of degree awards in higher education is not applicable to SHAPE programmes.
 

 

Full-time Programmes
Study Visa and Hong Kong Identity Card


Student Visa

All non-local students require a visa / entry permit to study in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) unless he / she has the right of abode or right to land in the city. For details, please visit the website of the Immigration Department.

Non-local applicants should indicate on the application form that they require a visa / entry permit to study in the HKSAR. They should apply for a student visa after accepting an offer to study at SHAPE. It normally takes around 6 weeks for the Immigration Department to process the visa application upon receipt of all required documents. Failing to produce a valid visa / entry permit before programme commencement will result in a lapse of the offer.

SHAPE is not allowed to admit Mainland students to its Full-time programmes.

Hong Kong Identity Card

According to the Registration of Persons Ordinance (Cap. 177), non-local students who are permitted to remain in Hong Kong for more than 180 days should apply to the Immigration Department for a Hong Kong identity card. For details, please visit the website of the Immigration Department.

After obtaining your Hong Kong identity card, you must submit a copy of your identity card to SHAPE.

Part-time Programmes
Graduates of VTC’s Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (“VPAS”)


The Chief Executive of Hong Kong has announced in his Policy Address 2025 to relax restrictions (“Relaxations”) to allow non-local students (excluding holders of student visas / entry permits) to enrol into part-time sub-degree, undergraduate, or research postgraduate programmes, so as to encourage them to pursue continued professional development and education.

Graduates of VPAS who have successfully applied to the Immigration Department to remain in / return to the HKSAR for employment under VPAS could apply for Part-time degree programmes of SHAPE. For details, please visit the following websites:

Applicants who are graduates of VPAS should indicate on the application form that they require a visa / entry permit to study in the HKSAR. Q: Can non-local graduates under VPAS​ enrol in part-time undergraduate programmes of SHAPE​ during their participation in the VPAS?
A: The Chief Executive of Hong Kong has announced in his Policy Address 2025 to relax restrictions (“Relaxations”) to allow non-local students (excluding holders of student visas / entry permits) to enrol in part-time sub-degree, undergraduate, or research postgraduate programmes, so as to encourage them to pursue continued professional development and education.
 
Q: If the Higher Diploma programme I studied was taught and assessed in Putonghua or Cantonese, may I apply for SHAPE's articulation degree programmes?
A: VPAS applicants studying Higher Diploma programmes not taught and assessed in English (e.g. Putonghua or Cantonese) should meet the prescribed IELTS / TOEFL English language requirements. Please refer to the webpage of respective programmes for details.
 
Q: What are the application procedures?
A: You can apply through the online application system available on the SHAPE website. Please refer to Online Application System for details. If you are currently enrolled in a VTC Higher Diploma, the Programme Coordinator will visit your class to introduce SHAPE's part-time top-up degree programmes in-person. You may submit the application form at that time.
 
Q: When will the programmes commence?
A: The programmes will normally commence between September and October.​
 
Q: Are non-local students eligible to apply for financial assistance?
A: Loan schemes, sponsorship and financial assistance provided by the Hong Kong SAR Government are not applicable to non-local students.
